After all the wastefulness of packaging that ends up in the trash as soon as it is used, it’s time to think about virtuous logistics. E-commerce has changed our consumption habits by offering us an infinite choice of items; in return, the volume of packaging has exploded. Until now, cardboard seemed to be the most reasonable solution, because it is recyclable. However, the collection and recycling itself consumes energy. A new trend is plastic packaging that can be collected by the supplier at home or in the company for reuse or returned at the supplier’s expense.
How does the reusable packaging work?
The reusable package, in the form of a box or bag, allows for a considerable reduction in packaging consumption. Several manufacturers have taken up the subject to develop solutions that suit both the merchant and the customer.
These packages use synthetic materials that are supposedly more polluting, but this is not the case, since they will be used until they are completely worn out and then sent to special centers for treatment. It is important to remember that recycling cardboard costs a lot of energy and also consumes a lot of plastic: adhesive tape to ensure its closure, plastic wedges inside the packages, heat-shrink film to transport the packages on pallets, etc.
Here are the first manufacturers to offer reusable plastic packaging for a more virtuous logistics chain.
