The heat gun is used to project hot air onto various materials in order to work on them. It is used for professional purposes, but also at home where it is used for many tasks.
The uses of the hot air gun
- Mastic car body filler to speed up drying.
- Weeds to be dried rather than using chemicals.
- Meringues: the heat gun is used in the kitchen to make meringues or to shape crème brûlée.
- Cleaning: barbecue grills, fireplace inserts, tools, glue marks, etc.
- Clock parts : After cleaning, the hot air quickly dries the gears, screws and springs.
- Plexiglas: the use of the heat gun makes it malleable to be shaped into furniture, decor or accessories.
- Plumbing: for shaping PVC pipes, soldering defective copper pipes, loosening drain and sewer pipes, bending floor heating pipes, etc.
- Polishing of rustic furniture, doors and other wooden surfaces with wax and hot air.
- Wet sanding for paint jobs on cars, furniture and doors. The hot air allows the parts to dry quickly and start painting without waiting.
- Preheating an engine for oil change : the heat gun accelerates the flow of oil.
- Preheating of lawnmower engines that have difficulty starting.
- Preheating of the bitumen sheets used to dress the body parts, which facilitates their shaping.
- Preheating of garden hoses for easy mounting on fittings or water hoses.
- Soldering and heat-shrink fittings in electrical engineering to ensure a reliable connection between cables.
- Soundproofing lining : This coating, which attenuates engine noise, is difficult to work on when cold. The hot air softens it.
- Repairing flat-roofed buildings’ roofs to easily fix cracks and holes in asphalt boards.
- Repair cable ends, cable harnesses, soldering points or dominoes with a plastic sheath.
- Shrink tubing for packages, mailers and small parts. Under the action of hot air, the plastic sheaths shrink and harden to fit the shape of the item to be packaged.
- Welding plastic sheeting.
- Resin stains to be removed from wood panels.
- Setting time of adhesives : The heat gun allows you to extend this time to allow you to properly adjust your assemblies. On the contrary, for water and solvent evaporation adhesives, hot air reduces your waiting time by reducing the setting time.
- Punctured or torn tent covers: the heat gun allows to weld a patch, in PVC for example.
- The glazing work is done to soften the remains of putty and remove them before proceeding with the installation of a new window. When installing new glass, the heat gun speeds up the drying of the wet window frame and helps the sealant adhere better.
- Gutters or drains that are difficult to remove: the hot air softens the hardened antifriction paste and unblocks the joints.
- Synthetic glass in polystyrene or acrylic (shower screens, railings, greenhouses, furniture, decorative objects, etc.): heating facilitates their shaping and installation.
- Screws and bolts that are impossible to loosen because of rust or because they are too tight: the hot air from the heat gun unblocks them.
