For effective winter-proofing, your boat must be put in a dry dock and protected from all external aggressors. Thermoform sheeting has all the advantages, provided that it is correctly installed and that ventilation is provided to avoid any condensation. Our ventilation clips provided for this purpose guarantee successful winter-proofing.
Why use ventilation clips
Once your thermo-sheeting is finished, your boat is hermetically protected. However, on the same principle as all enclosed spaces, stagnant ambient air condenses and generates humidity, mould and bad odours. As you are not going to vacuum seal your boat, you need to provide small vents, large enough to let air circulate, but not so large that undesirable things can get through. The ventilation clips designed for use when storing your boat for winter, allow you to avoid condensation, mould and unpleasant odours.
How the ventilation clips for boat winter-proofing work
The design of the ventilation clips is simple, which guarantees that they will work for months on end without having to adjust them. Once installed, the clips offer complete protection during winter storage: they let air in, but not dust or rain. Your boat is protected from condensation, mould, bad odours and the intrusion of small animals, such as rodents that can devastate an interior if they come to nest there for the winter.
The clips measure just over ten centimetres in diameter and are very lightweight, allowing you to position them anywhere you want, at any angle or in any orientation.
Made of high-strength plastic, they are corrosion-resistant, even when your boat is exposed to the sea air.
Ventilation clips for winter-proofing are easy to install and do not require any specific tools. The adhesives that hold them in place are also waterproof and, whatever the weather conditions they will not come off. Wind and rain have no effect on their effectiveness. They are designed to withstand wide temperature variations, both positive and negative. The plastic is UV-treated to resist prolonged exposure to the sun, so it won’t “bake” and crack.
Circular ventilation clip – self-piercing action
The circular ventilation clip installs in seconds. To install, you just have to separate the two parts. Place the “teeth” of the cutter section on the tarpaulin and press to pierce it. Then you turn to cut a circular hole Once the hole is made, you remove the protective film from the adhesive on the other half on the clip and stick it over the hole. The teeth will be facing upwards. Position the cutter section “teeth-to-teeth” with the section that is now attached to the tarpaulin, make a quarter turn and that’s it. So you don’t need any tools to install your ventilation clip and the whole thing takes less than a minute.
The circular ventilation clip with cutter
The circular ventilation clip with cutter does not automatically pierce the cover. You stick it on your heat-shrink film, before cutting with a cutter. Whether you use one or the other of these clips, there is no risk of scratching the surfaces underneath: plastic, wood, plastic, metal, painted surfaces, etc. In fact, you will not place your ventilation clips where the tarpaulin is against a surface, as air will not be able to circulate.
The ventilation clips for winter-proofing the boat are sold in multiples.
